What Is The Right Age For Disney? PDF Print E-mail
We have been taking our son since he was 1. NowMAgic Kingdom obviously, those trips were more about family time together than the attractions. However, I would say the best age to start is between 4 and 5. At that age they can begin riding other larger attractions like Splash Mountain and Thunder Mountain, depending on how daring they are. Just keep in mind that they may not make a whole day so budgeting your time is important for everyone to have a good time.

Time Management:

Getting up at 6am, breakfast at 7am, and in the parks at 8am probably means you won't make the nighttime parades or fireworks, unless you plan on some downtime during the day. And to be honest, I enjoy the downtime. I do recommend getting up early and getting into the parks when they open, especially if the parks have Extra Magic Hours. But, plan on a mid-afternoon break to recharge and grab dinner before heading out for the night. *TIP* In the summer time, I like to be out of the parks during the peak of the heat and return late afternoon when most of the non-resort guests are leaving for the day. Busses run approximately every 20 minutes to and from the parks. When you return, plan that time to be parade and firework time. Find a good spot to watch from, grab a snack and people watch. This way the whole day isn't just rushing from ride to ride...and believe me, Disney knows how to put on a great parade and fireworks to follow. *TIP* Good spots fill up about 60 minutes prior to the event. If you want a GREAT view, the seats on the Railroad Station provide some of the best views, but plan on getting there about 2 hours early.

Planning Your Day:

The Magic Kingdom

With little ones, always start in Fantasy Land. Especially during extra magic hours. I would get Dumbo out of the way right away as it is a pretty slow line, especially later in the day. You may want to have someone grab fast passes for a larger attraction like Space Mountain if your plan is Tomorrow Land or Splash Mountain/Thunder Mountain if your plan is Frontier Land. I know a lot of guides say start on the left which is Adventure Land, but trust me, before the little ones get tired, get Fantasy Land out of the way so they can enjoy it.
